पूर्व रक्षा सचिव डॉ. अजय कुमार को संघ लोक सेवा आयोग (UPSC) का नया चेयरमैन नियुक्त किया गया है। यह नियुक्ति राष्ट्रपति द्रौपदी मुर्मू द्वारा 14 मई 2025 को की गई, जो पूर्व चेयरपर्सन प्रीति सूदन के 29 अप्रैल को कार्यकाल समाप्त होने के बाद हुई है ।
Former Defence Secretary Dr Ajay Kumar has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). The appointment was made by President Draupadi Murmu with effect from 14 May 2025, after the term of former chairperson Preeti Sudan ends on 29 April.

UPSC चेयरमैन के रूप में कार्यकाल : (Tenure as UPSC Chairman)
- UPSC चेयरमैन के रूप में डॉ. अजय कुमार का कार्यकाल 15 मई 2025 को शुरू हुआ है। संविधान के अनुच्छेद 316(1) के तहत, UPSC चेयरमैन का कार्यकाल छह साल या 65 वर्ष की आयु तक, जो भी पहले हो, होता है। डॉ. कुमार का कार्यकाल अक्टूबर 2027 तक रहेगा, जब वे 65 वर्ष के हो जाएंगे ।
- Dr Ajay Kumar’s term as UPSC chairman began on May 15, 2025. Under Article 316(1) of the Constitution, the term of office of the UPSC chairman is six years or till he attains the age of 65, whichever is earlier. Dr Kumar’s term will last till October 2027, when he turns 65.
डॉ. अजय कुमार का परिचय : Introduction to Dr. Ajay Kumar
- सेवा पृष्ठभूमि: डॉ. अजय कुमार 1985 बैच के केरल कैडर के सेवानिवृत्त IAS अधिकारी हैं। उन्होंने 23 अगस्त 2019 से 31 अक्टूबर 2022 तक भारत सरकार के रक्षा सचिव के रूप में कार्य किया। इस दौरान उन्होंने रक्षा मंत्रालय में कई महत्वपूर्ण सुधारों की पहल की, जिनमें 2020 में चीफ ऑफ डिफेंस स्टाफ (CDS) पद की स्थापना और 2022 में अग्निवीर योजना का शुभारंभ शामिल है ।
- Service Background: Dr Ajay Kumar is a retired IAS officer of the 1985 batch of Kerala cadre. He served as the Defence Secretary, Government of India from 23 August 2019 to 31 October 2022. During this period, he initiated several important reforms in the Ministry of Defence, including the establishment of the post of Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) in 2020 and the launch of the Agniveer Yojana in 2022.
एडुकेशनल क्वालिफिकेशन: Educational Qualification:
- डॉ. कुमार ने IIT कानपुर से इलेक्ट्रिकल इंजीनियरिंग में बी.टेक की है। इसके अलावा उन्होंने अमेरिका के मिनेसोटा विश्वविद्यालय से एप्लाइड इकोनॉमिक्स में एमएस और कार्लसन स्कूल ऑफ मैनेजमेंट से बिजनेस एडमिनिस्ट्रेशन में पीएचडी की उपाधि प्राप्त की है ।
Dr. Kumar has done B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from IIT Kanpur. Apart from this, he has also received MS in Applied Economics from the University of Minnesota, USA and PhD in Business Administration from Carlson School of Management. - उन्होंने इलेक्ट्रॉनिक्स और सूचना प्रौद्योगिकी मंत्रालय में अतिरिक्त सचिव और राष्ट्रीय सूचना विज्ञान केंद्र के महानिदेशक जैसे महत्वपूर्ण पदों पर भी कार्य किया है। UPI, आधार, MyGov.in, गवर्नमेंट ई-मार्केटप्लेस और जीवन प्रमाण जैसी परियोजनाओं के डिजिटल इंडिया पहल के तहत उनकी महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका रही है
He has also held important positions such as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and Director General of National Informatics Centre. He has played a key role in the Digital India initiative of projects such as UPI, Aadhaar, MyGov.in, Government e-Marketplace and Jeevan Pramaan
UPSC चेयरमैन का वेतन: UPSC Chairman Salary
- UPSC चेयरमैन को मासिक वेतन प्रति माह ₹2.5 लाख दिया जाता है, जबकि अन्य सभी सदस्यों को ₹2.25 लाख मासिक वेतन दिया जाता है। इसके अलावा, उन्हें सरकारी नियमों अनुसार अन्य भत्ते और सुविधाएं भी प्राप्त होती हैं
UPSC chairman is paid a monthly salary of ₹2.5 lakh per month, while all other members are paid a monthly salary of ₹2.25 lakh. Apart from this, they also get other allowances and facilities as per government rules.
