Dmitri Mendeleev was a Russian chemist who developed the periodic classification of elements in 1869. He developed his table to explain the periodic trends in the properties of the elements known at that time. Mendeleev also predicted some properties of unknown elements and expressed the possibility that these elements would fill the blank spaces in his table.
