India Attends Trump’s “Board of Peace” Meeting as Observer
On February 19, 2026, India attended the first meeting of U.S. President Donald Trump’s Board of Peace on Gaza as an observer country.
The meeting was held at the Donald J. Trump Institute of Peace in Washington, DC. India was represented by Namgya Khampa, the Chargé d’affaires at the Indian Embassy in Washington DC.
However, India has not officially joined the Board of Peace. It only attended the meeting in an observer role.
What is the Board of Peace?
The Board of Peace has been created by President Trump for the redevelopment of the Gaza Strip. It was announced during the second phase of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas.
President Trump also announced that the United States will contribute $10 billion to support the Board’s work.
The Board includes 27 member countries, such as:
- Argentina
- Armenia
- Azerbaijan
- Hungary
- Pakistan
- Saudi Arabia
- United Arab Emirates (UAE)
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was among several global leaders invited by President Trump to join the Board.
India’s Position
India did not attend the January 22 ceremony in Davos, where President Trump officially announced the Board of Peace.
At present, India is not a member but is closely watching developments by attending meetings as an observer.
Is the Board a Rival to the United Nations?
The Board of Peace is seen by some as a possible alternative to the United Nations (UN).
President Trump has previously said that the Board of Peace “might” replace the UN, as he believes the UN has not fully achieved its goals.
Conclusion
India’s participation as an observer shows that it is carefully studying the initiative without committing to membership. The development is important because it could affect global diplomacy, Middle East peace efforts, and the future role of international institutions.
